Inspiration Board

Also called a visualization board or mood board, whatever name it's all basically the same. A pretty way to convey an idea in images, that at times can be quite powerful. I'm not sure how powerful the two below are, but it sure was fun making them. And I pulled this together from a lot of materials I had gathered over a few years, I edited down a lot, and made sure that I had a reason for every element in the board and not just because it went well with everything else.

So here's my homework for the BYW class! Enjoy :-)

I'm pretty sure we were instructed specifically to make only one board, but I cheated. They are an extension of the same idea, in any case. And I edited down so much, I just whittle it down any further. So here are the two boards and some detail shots, of Board 1:

And of Board 2:

I think the two go pretty well together, don't you? But I do like Board 2 better.

What do you think? If you're curious about any of the images in either of these boards, or why I included them, ask away in the comments :-)

  2. so beautiful! I love the reds that pop out between all the layers of blue! Is the folder designed with the white flower drawings or did you add them? they are cool!

  3. I agree with the other comment-leavers that your color choices are great. In this case, I think "cheating" is OK!

  5. Thanks ladies for your comments! I'm so pleased with the way they turned out. I'm always drawn to bright, saturated colors...they make me happy!

@Eliza - The folders I used came that way - I think I got them at Barnes & Noble - the outside is glossy red with the white drawings, and the inside is gray with the same white drawings. So I used the gray inside for one board & the red outside for the other. The red makes such a good backdrop!

@Mitzi - thanks for the pass on "cheating" :-)

@Joanna - yay! That's exactly the feeling I wanted to convey. I'm totally craving a place on the internet to hang with cool people & play.

I'm popping over to your blogs to check out your mood boards!

  8. Great inspiration board! I'm glad you found me on Twitter -- I'm putting your RSS feed in my google reader. I'm so jealous you're doing decor8's Blogging Your Way course; I wanted to do it so badly. But it's probably good I'm not -- otherwise I'd be ignoring homework.

  9. Thanks :-) Turquoise is my all-time favorite color...
@Brandi I had to act quickly to get into the class as I heard it sold out fast the first time! And I'm struggling to get homework done in time each week but it's WORTH IT!
